The Life I Thought I’d Have (And the One I’m Learning to Love)

If you had asked me a few years ago what I thought my life would look like… I don’t think I could have imagined any of this. Cancer wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was losing a pregnancy. Neither was becoming a content creator. Neither was rebuilding my life more than once.
If I’m honest… Sometimes I still grieve the life I thought I was going to have. But something surprising happened along the way. I started noticing the beauty in the life I actually have.
Life Doesn’t Always Follow the Plan
We all grow up carrying a picture of what life is supposed to look like. Marriage. Kids. A career you love. Good health. Family vacations. A future that unfolds more or less according to plan. Then one phone call, one diagnosis, one loss, or one unexpected turn reminds you that life doesn’t ask for permission before changing the story.
The Little Things Became Bigger
Coffee outside. Watching your girls laugh. A quiet walk. A sunset. Fresh flowers. An ordinary Tuesday. The things you once rushed past become the things you protect.
I’ve Stopped Waiting for “When”
Somewhere along the way, my definition of a “good day” changed. It used to be about checking boxes, reaching goals, getting ahead, and always looking toward what came next. Now it’s slower. Coffee with my husband before everyone wakes up. Watching my girls laugh over something completely ridiculous. A walk with nowhere to be. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table. The sound of rain. A sunset that makes me stop what I’m doing. An ordinary Tuesday with nothing exciting to report.
Those moments used to slip by unnoticed. Now they’re the ones I hold onto the tightest. Because life has a way of teaching you that the ordinary isn’t ordinary at all. It’s the life you were so busy chasing.
My New Definition of Success
For a long time, I thought success meant building a bigger life. Now I think it means building a fuller one. A life where my girls know I’m paying attention. A life where my work helps someone breathe a little easier. A life where there’s room for slow mornings, family dinners, and ordinary Tuesdays. A life I’m not constantly trying to escape because I’m too busy chasing the next thing.
That’s the kind of success I’m working toward now.
What I’m Building Now
For a long time, I thought I had to have everything figured out before I could help other people. Life has taught me otherwise.
These days, I’m building something different. Wonder & Glow Living has become a place where I share the things that make everyday life a little easier—from family meals and wellness favorites to motherhood, travel, and the lessons I’m still learning along the way. Meditate with Jamie gives people permission to slow down, breathe, and find a little calm, even if only for a few minutes. This blog has become a place where I can tell the truth about the messy middle—not just the highlight reel.
None of it is about perfection. It’s about connection. It’s about creating things that help someone feel seen, encouraged, or just a little less alone. I’m creating more slowly now. More intentionally. Not because I have less to say, but because I want what I create to actually matter.
And honestly… This chapter feels more like me than any chapter before it.
Closing
If your life doesn’t look the way you imagined… you’re not alone. Sometimes the life we build after everything falls apart becomes the one that teaches us what truly matters.
I’m still learning. Still growing. Still figuring it out one day at a time. And maybe that’s the point. If you’re here doing the same… I’m really glad our paths crossed. 💛
