Our Calm-First Homeschool Morning Routine Using Miacademy
Our homeschool mornings used to feel rushed, chaotic, and just…off. But this year, we committed to something new: calm first. That means less pressure and more presence…starting with a gentle routine and the right tools. Enter: Miacademy (✨Non-affliliate fav✨). It’s been a game changer in our home, and today I’m sharing how we use it (and a few must-haves you can grab on Amazon). The Flow of Our Morning:
🕖 Wake-up + Warm Drink
Before we dive into learning, we take a few moments to just…be. My daughter drinks water while I drink my (second) coffee. This sets the tone for a peaceful start.
🧘♀️ Mindfulness First
We spend 3-5 minutes doing a short breathing exercise, stretch, or saying a calming affirmation. (You can check out our YouTube channel Meditate with Jamie for free resources!)

📝 Why Homeschooling?
We sent our daughter to a local private school when she started kindergarten. I felt that she was too smart to sit in a public classroom with up to 40 kids. I didn’t want her struggling because she was bored and then labeled as “acting out”. So we paid a lot of money to send her where she could thrive, The classroom sizes were small and the teacher was incredible. The week before class started the school got a new principal. During the year the music teacher left (which Jamie adored). It almost became a game to my husband and I when we would get a new email. Which teacher or administrative person left of was transferred this week?!
I also started to feel like I never had time with her. She woke up, went to school at 8:20am then out at 4:15pm. We would get home to prepare and eat dinner, shower and bed. Due to all of that we made the decision to pull Jamie and homeschool. I did a lot of research and ended up trying the trial for Miacademy. She did so well and the program fit what we were looking for. She likes the visual learning, but she also loves doing the workbooks (pdfs). I highly recommend doing the trial…30 days to decide is huge! Try a class or two and see how it goes. This may be great for you…and it may not be. I found success with it and wanted to share it with you!
Why it Works for US
It’s structured but flexible. You can choose your days, times, how long the class will last and more. (I have found lunch time the system is too overwhelmed, so we tend to do between9/10am). There are religious courses if it is something you would like, but also there is no pressure to take it. Everything is laid out nicely so you can sit next to your kids and once they have the hang of it, just be there for support when needed. The workbooks help get more practice in the subject. Spelling, writing, and reading we do separately.
